Trauma Linked to ADHD

Peter Levine, the founder of Somatic Experiencing®, talks about ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and Trauma in this 5-minute video.

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) has become a very popular subject in the media over the last decade with more and more problem-children being diagnosed with it and more and more medication being prescribed. Over 5.3 million children between the ages of 3 and 17 years of age–8.6% of children in that age range–have been diagnosed with ADHD according the the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Many theories as to the causes and treatment of ADHD exist. But Peter Levine explains in this video that the symptoms of ADHD, such  as hyperarousal and hypervigilance, may be rooted in some cases in unresolved traumas and the deregulation of the nervous system that results. The good news is that trauma therapy can be a very beneficial treatment for  ADHD.
